    KZN MEC Mbali Shinga Escapes Injury in N3 Crash

    KZN MEC for Social Development , Mbali Shinga, walked away unharmed after her convoy was involved in a collision on the N3 on Monday. According to reports, a speeding motorist collided with a security vehicle in the convoy before hitting the car carrying Shinga and her bodyguards.

    Despite the scare, Shinga resumed her duties shortly after the incident.


    Rainy Weather Worsens KZN Roads

    Heavy rainfall and slippery roads have compounded the dangers for motorists in KwaZulu-Natal. MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, highlighted an alarming increase in road fatalities on N3 routes.

    “Since the 1st of January, around 10 people have died on our roads. With the rain, the roads are slippery. We are requesting motorists to be extra careful,” stated Duma.

    The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a severe Level 8 warning for disruptive rain, predicting potential flooding in areas including Ethekwini, KwaDukuza, Jozini, and Umhlabuyalingana.


    Another Crash on the Same Route

    Coinciding with Shinga’s accident, another collision on the N3 near Colenso involved a bus and a truck, injuring at least 18 passengers. First responders had to rescue four individuals trapped inside the bus.

    The victims were swiftly transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

    In addition to traffic accidents, severe storms caused destruction across the country. Areas like Welkom experienced significant structural damage, while the North West province saw trees uprooted and vehicles damaged at the popular Sun City Resort.
