AmaZulu FC have stunned their supporters with the announcement that co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has resigned from his position, effective immediately. The KwaZulu-Natal club confirmed the news, revealing that Vilakazi stepped down due to urgent personal matters that require his immediate attention, making it impossible for him to continue fulfilling his duties.
AmaZulu FC Official Statement
In the official statement, AmaZulu outlined that Vilakazi had requested to be relieved of his responsibilities, and his resignation was accepted by the club president, Sandile Zungu. The club expressed gratitude towards Vilakazi for his efforts and wished him the best in his future endeavours. Zungu, speaking on behalf of the club, said, “On behalf of the entire Usuthu family—players, technical and administrative personnel, supporters, and board members—we wish Mpiyakhe all the best in his future endeavours.”
Arthur Zwane Takes Over as Sole Head Coach
Following Vilakazi’s departure, Arthur “Phakimpi” Zwane will continue as the sole head coach of AmaZulu FC. This marks a significant shift in the coaching structure after the club initially appointed Zwane and Vilakazi as co-coaches in October last year. The duo took over following the underperformance of previous head coach Pablo Franco Martin, who failed to secure positive results, leaving the club dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Early Success Under Co-Coaches
Under the leadership of Zwane and Vilakazi, AmaZulu managed a solid start, pushing up to fifth place in the league. However, their journey was cut short in the Nedbank Cup, where they were eliminated by Marumo Gallants in the Round of 16.
Looking Ahead: AmaZulu’s Next Fixture
Despite the positive progress in the league, Vilakazi’s sudden resignation has left the club with significant changes to manage. With Zwane now solely in charge, all eyes will be on how he continues to guide AmaZulu forward.
AmaZulu FC will return to action on March 2, when they face Cape Town City at King Zwelithini Stadium in their Betway Premiership fixture.
The transition brings an end to a chapter with Vilakazi at the helm, and fans will be hoping for continued success under Zwane’s leadership.
