Miss South Africa 1997 and Miss World 1998 finalist, Kerishnie Naiker, is inspiring many as she celebrates a significant milestone in her recovery—walking again after being wheelchair-bound for months.
An Unexpected Turn of Events
Kerishnie Naiker, a renowned South African pharmacist, beauty queen, and activist, faced an unforeseen challenge in July 2024 when she suffered a fall at Cape Point. The 45-year-old revealed that she was accidentally tripped by a tourist photographing the iconic lighthouse, causing her to tumble down two steps.
The accident resulted in injuries severe enough to require surgery, leaving Naiker wheelchair-bound for months. Despite the physical and emotional toll, her resilience has shone through.
A Milestone in Recovery
Eight months post-surgery, Naiker shared an emotional update with her followers on Instagram. She posted a video of herself walking along a beach, accompanied by heartfelt words of gratitude.
“While I may not have full range of motion yet, I’m deeply grateful for God’s mercy and grace,” Naiker wrote. “Walking again, albeit baby steps, is a gift.”
Her post resonated with many, showcasing her determination and faith in overcoming adversity.

Naiker’s journey is a testament to her enduring strength. Crowned Miss South Africa in 1997, she achieved international recognition by placing in the top 5 at Miss World 1998 and the top 10 at Miss Universe 1998.
