The much-anticipated Matric Results 2024 will officially be released on the 14th of January 2025. Ahead of the public announcement, Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube is expected to unveil the overall performance of matriculants in a detailed briefing on the 13th of January.
This year’s release comes amidst ongoing debates about privacy. The Information Regulator has issued an enforcement notice cautioning against the publication of matric results in newspapers, citing potential violations of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). However, the Department of Basic Education has outlined various methods for students to access their results securely.
Collecting Matric Results 2024 in Person
According to the Department’s spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, students can collect their official statements of results directly from the schools or examination centres where they wrote their exams. Collections will be available from 08:00 on the 14th of January 2025.
Online Access to Matric Results 2024
Students who prefer digital access can retrieve their Matric Results 2024 online. The Department of Basic Education (DBE) will publish the results on their official website at 06:00.

- Visit the DBE website: www.education.gov.za.
- Enter your exam number to log in and view your results.
SMS and USSD Services
For those unable to visit their schools or access the internet, the Department provides SMS and USSD options to receive Matric Results 2024 directly on mobile devices.
Access Results via SMS
- Send your exam number to 35658.
- You will receive confirmation and further instructions via SMS.
- SMSes cost R1.50 each, and free SMS bundles do not apply.
Access Results via USSD
- Dial *120*35658# on your phone.
- Follow the prompts to register and view your results on the 14th of January.
- USSD costs 50c per 20 seconds, and free airtime does not apply.
It’s important to note that the USSD service is exclusive to learners who wrote the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams and is not available for those who sat under the Independent Examinations Board (IEB).
