Radio and TV Personality Reflects on Her Marriage, Toxic Relationships, and Lessons Learned

Renowned South African radio and TV personality, Dineo Ranaka, has opened up about her first marriage, shedding light on the challenges she faced, including allegations of abuse and serial infidelity. During a candid conversation on L-Tido’s podcast, Dineo shared the harrowing experiences that led her to walk away from her brief union, which lasted just three months.

    Allegations of Abuse and Infidelity

Dineo disclosed that her ex-husband was not only abusive but also engaged in what she described as “wild cheating.” She reflected on the difficulties of tolerating infidelity, explaining,

“There’s cheating you can forgive, but then there’s the kind where it’s like opening a cupboard, and all the roaches come out. That’s when you leave the property.”

Her statement highlighted the severity of the issues she faced, painting a picture of a toxic relationship that no amount of reconciliation could mend.

The radio anchor also recalled a traumatic moment when her ex-husband allegedly physically assaulted her while she was holding their three-month-old baby. She shared,

“I thought, no, this is not how it’s going to go down. Not me — who doesn’t submit to bullsh**.”

    A Personal Development Advocate

Known for her dynamic personality, Dineo emphasized her efforts to salvage the marriage. She explained how she attempted to approach the issues constructively, saying,

“I’m the kind of person who says, ‘Let’s talk about this. Maybe we need to break up, but before we do, let’s discuss it. Is it a you thing? If it is, how can I help?’”

Despite her willingness to work on the relationship, Dineo made it clear that she draws the line at abuse and persistent betrayal.

    Empowering Women in Relationships

While clarifying that she is not a feminist, Dineo offered strong advice for women in relationships:

“A woman should only submit to a man who submits himself to God…not a man who’s lost far too deep and is pretending to be godly.”

Her reflections resonate deeply in a society where conversations around gender-based violence (GBV) and toxic relationships are increasingly coming to the fore.

    A Voice Against GBV

Dineo’s revelations serve as a poignant reminder of the ongoing fight against gender-based violence in South Africa. Her story aligns with the broader call for action, especially in the wake of initiatives such as the 16 Days of Activism.

As a public figure, Dineo’s bravery in speaking out provides a platform for women to seek help and prioritize their well-being.
