Omoda continues to expand its C5 lineup with the introduction of the Street variant, a budget-friendly option priced at an impressive R329,900. Following the launch of the Style grade earlier this year at just under R400,000, the new Street model lowers the entry point by an additional R35,000, offering affordability while maintaining key features.

ConvenienceKeyless entry, push-button start, cruise control, three USB ports.
Practicality378 liters of boot space, expandable to 1,075 liters with rear seats folded.
Performance1.5L naturally aspirated engine (83kW/138Nm), CVT transmission, front-wheel drive.
Warranty & ServiceFive-year/150,000 km warranty, two-year/25,000 km service plan, first-owner 10-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty.

A Simpler Yet Stylish Exterior

The Street variant presents some differences in design compared to its pricier siblings. Halogen headlights replace the LED units found on the Style, and the glossy black 17-inch wheels give way to conventional silver alloy rims, which remain the same size. Buyers also have a more limited palette of four colors: Khaki White, Phantom Grey, Aerial Black, and Carbon Crystal Black.

Interior Adjustments

Inside, the Street swaps out leather sport seats for cloth upholstery without electric adjustments. The sound system is simplified with a four-speaker setup instead of the Style’s six. However, it retains a dual 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and infotainment screens, along with features like keyless entry, push-button start, cruise control, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility.

In a surprising twist, the airbag count increases to four, doubling the two in the Style. The manual air-conditioning system also makes way for an upgraded automatic dual-zone system, adding a touch of comfort.

Practicality and Performance

The Street variant retains the same practicality as the rest of the C5 range, with a boot capacity of 378 liters, expanding to 1,075 liters with the rear seats folded.

Under the hood, the Street variant departs from the 1.5 T-GDI engine seen in other models, opting for a naturally aspirated version. This results in a power output of 83kW and 138Nm of torque, compared to the turbocharged engine’s 115kW and 230Nm. A CVT gearbox remains the sole transmission option, delivering power to the front wheels.

Omoda C5 Pricing and Value

Omoda’s latest offering includes a five-year/150,000 km warranty, a reduced two-year/25,000 km service plan, and a 10-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty for the first owner.

Here’s the full price breakdown for the C5 range:

  • Omoda C5 1.5 Street CVT – R329,900
  • Omoda C5 1.5 T-GDI Style CVT – R364,900
  • Omoda C5 1.5 T-GDI Lux CVT – R477,900
  • Omoda C5 1.5 T-GDI Lux S CVT – R479,900
  • Omoda C5 1.5 T-GDI Elegance CVT – R507,900
  • Omoda C5 1.5 T-GDI Elegance S CVT – R509,900
  • Omoda C5 1.6 T-GDI GT DCT – R589,990

Conclusion

The Omoda C5 Street delivers a compelling package for buyers looking to maximize value without sacrificing essential features. By introducing this sub-R350,000 variant, Omoda has effectively broadened the appeal of the C5 lineup, making it accessible to a wider audience. Despite the absence of the turbocharged engine and some premium appointments, the Street maintains the modern design and practicality that define the C5 range.

With its balanced combination of affordability, technology, and style, the Street stands out as a strategic move to cater to budget-conscious individuals and families in need of a capable and comfortable SUV. Omoda’s emphasis on thoughtful cost-cutting without compromising on core features highlights its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, ensuring the C5 remains a formidable contender in its segment. This bold step solidifies Omoda’s reputation as a brand that delivers quality and value, setting a high standard for affordable SUVs.
