The DStv Premiership Top Goalscorer Award race is hotting up and we look at the contenders for the Golden Boot accolade. With some clubs having less than 10 games to finish the season, we take a look at the six top scorers.
The 2023/24 season has been a challenging journey for some clubs such as Cape Town Spurs who have been rooted at the bottom since the start. On the other hand, the likes of Richards Bay FC are also struggling to move up the log table and these are already seen as relegation contenders.
Golden Boot: Highest Five DStv Premiership Top Goalscorers
Looking at the charts, Mamelodi Sundowns marksman Peter Shalulile and last season’s joint top scorer’s name is nowhere to be found.
Lucas Costa Ribeiro
Instead, Masandawana is represented by Lucas Costa Ribeiro who is on fire for the Tshwane giants. The Brazilian hitman boats an impressive 10 goals next to his name considering that he is in his maiden season in the DStv Premiership. Heading to the Tshwane Derby on Tuesday night, the free-scoring Ribeiro could find his name on the scoresheet once again.
The reigning DStv Premiership champions, Brazilians are comfortably sitting at the summit of the log table and will look to remain unbeaten against Gavin Hunt’s men.

Khanyisa Mayo
The Cape Town City striker, Mayo is proving his doubters that he is not a one-season wonder. He has found the back of the net nine times for the Citizens as they sit at number five with 31 points on the log table. The Gqeberha-born Bafana Bafana goalscorer, Mayo is also proving his worth to national team coach Hugo Broos who overlooks him.
However, the Belgian mentor is now convinced Mayo is good enough for Bafana duties and included him in his latest Bafana squad.
Bradley Grobler
The veteran SuperSport United striker, Grobler is not having one of his best seasons owing to a spate of injuries. Grobler, often referred to as a sniper, sits at seven goals and will hope to see his name on the scoresheet against Sundowns. The 36-year-old will also look to help the three-time PSL winners to a comfortable finish as the season is almost over.
With 32 points at number four on the log table, their primary target is a return to Caf continental football and Grobler’s goals will be key.

Iqraam Rayners
The Stellenbosch frontman is one of the most feared strikers in the South African top flight. He is also part of the latest Bafana squad after his goalscoring displays. Rayners is a dangerman for the Cape Winelands-based side and his crucial goals were key for coach Steve Barker as they clinched the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup in its inaugural season. Rayners has seven goals on the charts and he aims to finish the season as the Golden Boot winner.
Augustine Kwem
Formerly on the books of Chippa United, Kwem is still showing signs of being a proven goal scorer at AmaZulu. The Nigerian striker and goalscorer, Kwem has six goals so far. His ability to make runs behind the defence is crucial for Usuthu. The 26-year-old Kwem will play a key role for the club as they look to finish in the top eight bracket under coach Pablo Franco Martin.

Tshegofatso Mabasa
Mabasa is one of the most gifted goal scorers with an eye for goal. The Orlando Pirates striker has six goals on the list.
However, most of his goals were scored while he was on the books of Moroka Swallows on loan from the Buccaneers. Since his return to Pirates, his mission has been to convince coach Jose Riveiro that he deserves a spot in Mayfair. The former Bloemfontein Celtic star played a big part in the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs last weekend but he was not on the scoresheet.
