The MTN8 semi-finals have brought out the best in South Africa’s football talent, with Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Stellenbosch FC all battling it out for a place in the final. Here’s a look at the top 10 players who stood out in these highly competitive matches.

Top 10 Player Ratings in MTN8 Semi-Finals

1. Deon Hotto (Orlando Pirates) – 9.2/10

Hotto was at the heart of Orlando Pirates’ attack, using his pace and skill to torment Cape Town City’s defence. His ability to deliver pinpoint crosses and his direct running at defenders made him a constant threat. Hotto was involved in key moments, including setting up chances that nearly led to goals, making him one of the standout players of the semi-finals.

2. Sage Stephens (Cape Town City) – 9.0/10

Cape Town City’s goalkeeper, Sage Stephens, delivered an incredible performance, keeping his side in the game with crucial saves. His reflexes and shot-stopping ability denied Orlando Pirates multiple scoring opportunities. Stephens’ composure and ability to command his box were key in keeping the match competitive.

3. Tshegofatso Mabasa (Orlando Pirates) – 8.8/10

Mabasa’s presence up front for Orlando Pirates was vital in their attacking play. His hold-up play and movement off the ball helped create space for his teammates. Mabasa came close to scoring on several occasions and linked well with Hotto, causing Cape Town City’s defence significant problems throughout the game.

4. Jayden Adams (Stellenbosch FC) – 8.7/10

Adams was a standout for Stellenbosch FC, demonstrating excellent vision and creativity in midfield. His passing accuracy and decision-making were exceptional, and he was a key figure in transitioning the play from defence to attack. Adams kept Sundowns’ midfield on their toes with his energy and technique.

5. Khuliso Mudau (Mamelodi Sundowns) – 8.6/10

Mudau was impressive for Mamelodi Sundowns, contributing both defensively and offensively. His overlapping runs and ability to deliver dangerous crosses added width to Sundowns’ attack, while his defensive duties were executed flawlessly. Mudau’s ability to track back and break up Stellenbosch’s counter-attacks was crucial to Sundowns’ success.

6. Jaedin Rhodes (Stellenbosch FC) – 8.5/10

Rhodes worked tirelessly in the middle of the park, contributing both in defense and attack. His high work rate and ability to win back possession for Stellenbosch made him a key player in the semi-finals. Rhodes also provided support for his attackers, showing his versatility on the pitch.

7. Thalente Mbatha (Cape Town City) – 8.4/10

Mbatha’s performance in midfield for Cape Town City was solid, as he helped control the tempo of the game. His distribution and ability to find teammates in advanced positions allowed his side to build pressure on Orlando Pirates. Mbatha also made several key defensive interventions, showcasing his all-around game.

8. Lehlohonolo Mojela (Stellenbosch FC) – 8.3/10

Mojela was a driving force for Stellenbosch FC in the midfield, combining defensive grit with attacking flair. He broke up play and distributed the ball efficiently, helping his team launch attacks against Sundowns. Mojela’s energy and vision helped Stellenbosch remain competitive throughout the match.

9. Grant Kekana (Mamelodi Sundowns) – 8.2/10

Kekana was a defensive pillar for Mamelodi Sundowns, making crucial clearances and tackles. His leadership at the back ensured that Stellenbosch’s attack was kept in check. Kekana’s strength in the air and his ability to read the game made it difficult for Stellenbosch to penetrate Sundowns’ defence.

10. Keanu Cupido (Cape Town City) – 8.0/10

Cupido’s defensive performance was one of the highlights for Cape Town City. He made several critical blocks and was excellent at cutting out crosses from the flanks. His composure under pressure and ability to win aerial duels made him a key figure in City’s defence.

Conclusion

The MTN8 semi-finals featured standout performances from some of South Africa’s top footballers. As the tournament nears its climax, these players will be crucial to their teams’ hopes of lifting the trophy in what promises to be a thrilling final.
