The Importance of SASSA Payment Dates

SASSA payment dates play a vital role in the lives of beneficiaries. These payment dates determine when funds will be distributed into the beneficiaries’ accounts, ensuring that they have access to their social grants on time. This schedule helps beneficiaries cover their essential expenses, such as food and other urgencies. By staying informed about payment dates, beneficiaries can budget and manage their finances, reducing financial stress and enhancing their overall quality of life.

Types of Social Grants and Payment Dates

SASSA provides various types of social grants, each tailored to specific needs. These grants include:

  1. SRD R350 Grant: The SRD (Social Relief Distress Grant) is for individuals that do not have the necessary means or receive any social grants, are not contributing/ eligible for UIF payment, and have no financial support from any other source.
  2. Old Age Grant: For senior citizens who have reached the eligible age, usually 60 or 65, depending on gender.
  3. Disability Grant: For individuals with disabilities who are unable to work.
  4. Child Support Grant: Aimed at assisting caregivers with the financial responsibility of raising children.
  5. Foster Child Grant: Provided to foster parents or caregivers who take care of children in need.
  6. Care Dependency Grant: Designed for caregivers of children with severe disabilities.
  7. Grant-in-Aid: For individuals who are living on a social grant but cannot look after themselves. They will receive this additional grant to pay the person who takes full-time care of them.
  8. War Veteran Grant: Granted to veterans who served in the South African War or World War II.

Each grant type has its specific payment dates each month. The payment dates for September 2023 are:

  • The Older Persons Grant (as well as any grants linked to these accounts) will be paid on 5 September 2023.
