The South African Police Service (SAPS) is seeking to recruit patriotic citizens who are willing to protect and are proud to serve the country by pursuing a career as a SAPS entry-level police trainee for enlistment in the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP). The SAPS is looking for 10,000 entry-level police trainees for the 2023/2024 intake.

Successful candidates will serve as Police Trainees on contract.

Core Functions of the SAPS Entry-Level Police Trainee Post

The core functions of the posts, on successful completion of the training, are as follows:

Prevent, combat, and investigate crime.
Maintain public order.
Protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property.
Uphold and enforce the law.

SAPS Entry-Level Police Trainee – The Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP)

Chosen applicants will participate in a Basic Police Development Learning Programme for 21 months.

The BPDLP will consist of 3 phases:

Training Phase:	Law Graduates:	Matriculants and other Graduates:
Induction Phase	1 month at a designated police station. Stipend – R4500-00 per month	1 month at a designated police station. Stipend – R4500-00 per month
Basic Training Phase	6 months of Basic Training at a designated SAPS Academy Stipend – R4500-00 per month	8 months of Basic Training at a designated SAPS Academy Stipend – R4500-00 per month
Probation Phase	After the successful completion of the Induction and the Basic Training Phases, the police trainee will be appointed as a member of the Service undergoing the Workplace Exposure Programme (12 months). Salary notch – R216 033 per annum

The Service will provide free training gear, meals, and accommodation to the police trainee during the Basic Training Phase of the BPDLP. SAPS Entry-Level Police Trainees will also receive medical aid benefits for the duration of the 21-month Basic Training Learning Programme.

Upon successful completion of the Basic Training Learning Programme, trainees will be considered for permanent appointment as members of the SAPS at the rank of Constable.

Placement: Successful SAPS Entry-Level Police Trainee candidates will be trained at any SAPS Academy in South Africa and will be

placed at any Police Station / Unit in South Africa after completion of the Institution Phase.

Requirements for the SAPS Entry-Level Police Trainee Post

SAPS Entry-Level Police Trainee applicants must meet the following requirements:

Must have a permanent residence in the Republic of South Africa (A copy of an ID is required).
Must own a matric certificate or equivalent qualification (A copy is required).
Must have a valid driving license for at least a light motor vehicle will serve as an advantage.
Must be proficient in at least English and one other official language.
Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 (proof required).
Must have no previous criminal convictions and will allow his or her fingerprints to be taken and background enquiries to be made.
Must not have any tattoo/marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service.
Must be prepared to take the oath of office.
Must submit himself/herself to a physical medical examination as determined by the National Commissioner and must be found to be physically and mentally fit for appointment in the post for which he or she applies.
Must undergo and pass a psychological assessment as determined by the National Commissioner and be found to fit the profile of a police official.
Must be prepared to undergo such training as determined by the National Commissioner successfully.
Must be prepared to serve anywhere in the Republic of South Africa.

Applicants who previously served in a Government Department and were dismissed for misconduct will not be considered for appointment in the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Interested candidates must submit their applications on the official application form, which can be obtained free of charge from any Police Station/SAPS Recruitment offices or downloaded from the SAPS Website (https://www.saps.gov.za). The Z83 previously utilized will no longer be accepted.
All instructions on the application form must be adhered to, failure to do so may result in the rejection of the application.
Applications must be hand-delivered timeously to the local Police Stations during office hours. Late applications will not be accepted or considered.
