EFF Focuses on Third National People’s Assembly as MK Party Celebrates First Anniversary
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have officially declined the invitation to attend uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party’s first-anniversary rally at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban this weekend. The decision was confirmed during a press briefing held by EFF Secretary-General Marshall Dlamini, who emphasized the party’s focus on its Third National People’s Assembly.
EFF Prioritizes Internal Growth at Third National People’s Assembly
The EFF’s Third National People’s Assembly will take place at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg this weekend. According to Dlamini, the Assembly will prioritize discussions in the plenary, allowing delegates to shape the future trajectory of the party.
“As we are here, we are handing over this organization back to its owners, which are the delegates. We have quality delegates with mandates from their branches and provinces,” said Dlamini.
The party expressed confidence in emerging stronger from the Assembly and ready to “lead society and the country.”
Declining the MK Party Invitation
The MK party had extended an invitation to the EFF, alongside other parties like the African Transformation Movement (ATM), which accepted the invite. However, Dlamini stated on Thursday that the EFF would not attend.
“I don’t have a letter from the president of the MK. They put it on media, and we are not going to the rally of MK,” said Dlamini.
Tense Relations Between the EFF and MK Party
The relationship between the two parties has been tense, partly due to prominent figures like former EFF national chairperson Dali Mpofu, former ATM member Mzwanele Manyi, and ex-public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane defecting to the MK party.
This decision further underscores the strained ties between the EFF and MK, with both parties focusing on their individual paths forward.
As the EFF forges ahead with its Third National People’s Assembly, its decision to forgo the MK anniversary rally highlights its commitment to internal party development. Meanwhile, the MK party’s rally will proceed, marking its milestone with the African Transformation Movement in attendance.
