City Power confirmed the schedule runs from Monday through the weekend, with outages affecting the inner city, Midrand, southern suburbs, Lenasia, and parts of Roodepoort. The utility states that the work supports network reliability and long-term service improvement. City Power apologised for the inconvenience and urged residents and businesses to plan ahead.

City Power confirmed the outages form part of routine maintenance on substations and switching stations across Johannesburg. According to City Power, the work supports network stability and reduces the risk of unplanned faults. City Power stated: “The interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on our network, which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service.”
Monday: Inner City and Braamfontein Outages
Braamfontein and surrounding inner city areas face a planned interruption on Monday from 8am to 4pm due to maintenance at the Braamfontein Substation in Region F.Affected Joburg Areas Revealed for Monday include:

Tuesday: Midrand Maintenance at Randjespark
On Tuesday, 20 January 2026, Randjespark Corporate Park in Midrand will experience a power interruption from 9am to 5pm. City Power technicians will work at the Randjespark Switching Station in Region A.This outage primarily affects corporate offices and business operations in the Randjespark area.
Wednesday: Multiple Substations and Wider Impact
Wednesday brings the most extensive impact, with two substations scheduled for maintenance from 8am to 4pm in Region F.Areas affected by Fort Substation work:
