Audi has officially pulled the covers off the second-generation Q3 Sportback, just two months after introducing the all-new third-generation Q3. Positioned as the brand’s entry-level coupe-inspired SUV, the Sportback once again blends practicality with sportier styling.
Coupe-Inspired Design
While the front remains largely identical to its Q3 sibling, the Sportback distinguishes itself from the C-pillar backward. A fastback-style rear end and sloping roofline give it a coupe-like silhouette, with the roof sitting 29 mm lower than the standard Q3.
This design tweak does come at the expense of cargo space: with the rear seats folded flat, boot capacity drops from 1 386 litres in the Q3 to 1 289 litres in the Sportback. Audi hasn’t revealed the figure with the seats upright, but it is expected to be around 400 litres.
Built on Audi’s updated Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) – a development of the MQB architecture – the Sportback accommodates both traditional combustion engines and electrified drivetrains.

Audi is offering multiple powertrain choices under petrol (TFSI), diesel (TDI), and electrified (e-Hybrid) options:
- 1.5 TFSI mild-hybrid: 110 kW / 250 Nm
- 2.0 TFSI: 150 kW / 350 Nm or 195 kW / 400 Nm (quattro AWD standard on the latter)
- 2.0 TDI turbodiesel: 110 kW / 360 Nm (front-wheel drive)
- e-Hybrid: Combines the 1.5 TFSI Evo with a 19.7 kWh battery and electric motor, delivering 200 kW / 400 Nm. Offers up to 118 km of pure electric range, with 10-80% DC fast charging completed in just 30 minutes.
All engines are paired with Audi’s seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.
Pricing and Availability
Production of the Sportback takes place alongside the standard Q3 at Audi’s Győr plant in Hungary. Pricing in Europe begins at €46,450 (around R954,800), representing a premium of €1,850 over the regular Q3.
While the Q3 Sportback has yet to be confirmed for South Africa, a formal announcement is expected in 2026, following the arrival of the standard Q3.
