All-New Honda Amaze Unveiled South African Debut Expected in 2025

Honda has officially introduced the third-generation Amaze in India, branding it as a model that “outclasses” its competitors. This unveiling marks Honda’s second major launch after the Elevate, with both vehicles assembled at the Greater Noida Plant in Rajasthan.

Enhanced Design and Platform

Replacing the second-generation Amaze, which debuted six years ago, the new model is built on the same platform as the Elevate. While specific dimensions were not revealed during its launch on December 4th, the new Amaze offers a refreshed design that borrows heavily from its sibling, the Elevate.

The exterior showcases a bold front fascia with a chrome-accented grille, LED headlights, and repositioned fog lamps integrated into the bumper. Despite the sleek styling, the boot space has slightly decreased to 416 liters compared to its predecessor’s 420 liters.

At the rear, the Amaze draws inspiration from the facelifted City (known as the Ballade in South Africa), featuring similar taillights, a reimagined bumper design, and a shorter boot lid.

Modernized Interior Features

Inside, the Amaze reflects a significant upgrade in design and technology, mirroring elements from the Elevate due to the shared platform. The cabin now includes:

  • A freestanding eight-inch infotainment display on higher trims.
  • A redesigned center console with cupholders.
  • A digital climate control panel featuring physical buttons and toggles.
  • A wireless smartphone charger complemented by multiple connectivity options, including a 12-volt outlet, HDMI, and USB ports.

Higher trim levels also offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, dual-tone dashboard finishes, rear air-conditioning vents, and push-button start.

Comprehensive Safety Suite

Honda has enhanced the Amaze’s safety features, incorporating its Honda Sensing technology for the first time. This advanced suite includes:

  • LaneWatch Camera
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Collision Mitigation Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Hill Start Assist

Additionally, six airbags and Electronic Stability Control come standard across all models.

Engine and Performance

The new Amaze retains its 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 66 kW and 110 Nm of torque. It offers a choice between a five-speed manual gearbox and a CVT, with claimed fuel consumption figures of 5.4 L/100 km for the manual and 5.1 L/100 km for the CVT.

While the new Amaze is yet to be confirmed for the South African market, speculation points to a potential debut in early 2025. Currently, the second-generation Amaze is priced from R253,600 for the entry-level Trend to R292,400 for the Comfort CVT.

The new Amaze promises to bring elevated style, cutting-edge technology, and advanced safety features, positioning it as a strong contender in its segment.
