Senior Court Interpreter Vacancy
Position: Senior Court Interpreter
Reference Number: 2026/19/OCJ
Salary Range: R294,321 – R343,815 per annum (Level 07)
Contract Type: The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement and submit service certificates for the determination of experience.
Location: Eastern Cape Division of the High Court, Gqeberha
Requirements:
- Educational Qualification: Grade twelve (12) certification and a National Diploma (NQF 6) in Legal Interpreting or an equivalent qualification on NQF Level 6 (360 Credits).
- Experience: At least ten (10) years of practical experience in court interpreting, with a minimum of three (3) years of practical experience specifically in Court Interpreting.
- Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English and two or more indigenous languages (Afrikaans, isiXhosa) is required. Candidates will undergo oral and written language proficiency testing.
- Licences and Skills: A valid driver’s licence will be an advantage. Applicants must have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), be computer literate (MS Office), and possess good interpersonal skills. Other important skills include the ability to work under pressure, solve problems, maintain accuracy and attention to detail, and deliver customer service.
Duties:
- Provide interpreting services in criminal, civil, labour, and quasi-judicial proceedings.
- Render interpreting services during consultations, translate legal documents and exhibits.
- Assist with the reconstruction of court records, develop terminology, and coin new words as necessary.
- Perform specific line and administrative support functions for the Judiciary, Court Manager, and Supervisor as required.
