JMPD TRU Busts Drug Lab during a routine crime prevention patrol in South Hills, Johannesburg. The operation led to the arrest of a suspect and the discovery of suspected crystal meth and drug manufacturing chemicals.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department Tactical Response Unit continues to intensify crime prevention efforts across high-risk areas.
Routine Patrol Leads to Key Arrest
JMPD TRU officers conducted a routine patrol in South Hills on Tuesday. Officers stopped a silver-grey Honda Amaze at the corner of Helbron and Steelpoort streets. The vehicle had one male occupant. During the search, officers found a Rama butter container that held suspected illegal substances believed to be crystal meth. According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, officers acted on standard crime prevention procedures.
“This arrest followed proactive policing and visible patrols,” Fihla said.

After questioning, the suspect provided further details. He claimed another male instructed him to transport the drugs. The suspect described the alleged organiser as a foreign national and claimed the drugs were destined for the Free State. Officers arrested the suspect immediately and opened a case for possession and dealing in drugs.

- Equipment linked to illegal drug production
- Additional substances under investigation
Police secured the scene for further forensic analysis.
