According to the group’s Facebook posts, they left OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday, 23 October. Upon arrival in Ethiopia, they shared a light-hearted message asking for prayers. However, by Sunday morning, the tone had changed dramatically.
“Can someone help us? We are kidnapped in Ethiopia,”
Shortly after that message, the artists posted a disturbing image. One of the members had visible facial injuries, including a swollen cheek and a deep scar.

Later that day, Mapara A Jazz confirmed they were back in South Africa.
“We’re finally home! We’re grateful to say that we are safely back home. We want to sincerely thank everyone who showed us love, concern, and support during this difficult time — from both Ethiopia and South Africa,” the duo posted on social media.
They also expressed appreciation to Black Diamond VIP Protection, who allegedly helped ensure their safe return. The group has not yet shared full details of the alleged kidnapping.
South African Government Response and Investigation
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) responded quickly after spotting the viral post online. Clayson Monyela, Head of Public Diplomacy, confirmed that no official report had been filed with the South African embassy in Ethiopia.
“The matter was not reported to DIRCO… When we reached out, there was no case of a kidnapping that had been reported. We are glad they returned home safely.”
