Two people were tragically killed on Sunday evening after being ejected from their vehicle during a violent accident on the East Rand. The fatal horrofic crash occurred near the Swartkoppies onramp along the R59 in Alberton, leaving the community in shock.
Horrific Crash Claims Two Lives in Alberton
According to the City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, a distress call was received just after 6pm reporting a fatal accident involving a single vehicle near the Swartkoppies onramp on the R59 in Alberton.
Emergency services spokesperson Eric Maloka said rescue teams, including firefighters from the Alberton Fire Station, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, crews discovered a single car with four male occupants. It appears the vehicle rolled several times, and two of the passengers were ejected from the car. Sadly, due to the severity of their injuries, both were declared dead by Netcare paramedics,” Maloka confirmed.
Two Others Rushed to Hospital
Maloka added that the remaining two passengers sustained serious and moderate injuries, respectively. One was taken to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital, while the other was transported to Bertha Xowa Hospital for treatment.
“Forensic pathology assisted with the recovery of the bodies, and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) secured the scene,” he said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the EMPD.
Recent Tragedy in KZN
This comes just days after another fatal accident in KwaZulu-Natal, where a four-year-old girl was killed in a head-on collision on Richmond Road near Trafford Road in Westmead, Pinetown.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said two vehicles had collided head-on, leaving two people trapped inside. “Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to free the victims. Sadly, a four-year-old girl sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead at the scene,” Jamieson said.
The rest of the family and the driver of the second vehicle were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities are continuing investigations into both tragic incidents.
