Celebrity News: Tebogo G Mashego Apologises to DJ Maphorisa and Other Artists

Amapiano artist Tebogo G Mashego has issued a public apology to DJ Maphorisa, DJ Karri, and other artists following a social media outburst that sparked widespread debate. The artist, best known for the hit Biri Marung, previously accused major producers of withholding royalties and swore at them online.

Mental Breakdown and Public Regret

In a video posted online, Tebogo G Mashego acknowledged his emotional state and expressed regret over his behaviour.

“Eh guys, mental breakdown. I have a lot to say, but today I came to apologise. I swore at my big brothers,” Mashego said in a heartfelt clip.

The artist made it clear that his apology only covered his tone, not the allegations about unpaid royalties.

Tebogo G Mashego Still Stands by Royalty Claims

Despite apologising for swearing, Tebogo G Mashego doubled down on earlier claims that millions were owed to him. He alleged that DJ Maphorisa and others had withheld up to R23 million in unpaid earnings.
He stated:

“I’m only apologising for swearing. I still stand by what I said about the money.”

This has reignited industry conversations about royalty transparency and artist contracts, particularly in the Amapiano space.

Industry Divided Over Mashego’s Apology

Reaction from fans and fellow artists has been mixed. While some appreciated his accountability, others questioned his motives. Critics argue that the apology came too late and seemed like damage control.

A comment on social media read:

“This feels like an attempt to clean up a mess, not a real apology.”

Still, others highlighted that mental health in the music industry remains a growing concern. Public figures, even with support systems, often buckle under pressure.

“Celebrities often have access to private mental-health professionals … but many still struggle,” noted a report.

Royalty Issues Cast a Shadow on Amapiano Scene

Mashego’s allegations reflect broader challenges in the local music sector. Just last month, artists protested unpaid royalties at a chaotic SAMRO conference in Johannesburg.

Many independent artists have raised similar concerns about transparency in payments and lack of contractual clarity.

This situation underscores a deeper systemic issue affecting rising musicians who often lack legal support.

The Road Ahead for Mashego and the Industry

Tebogo G Mashego’s future in the industry remains uncertain. His willingness to apologise may help mend broken relationships, but trust must be rebuilt. DJ Maphorisa and DJ Karri have yet to respond publicly.

Meanwhile, fans and industry watchers are waiting to see whether the royalty claims will be addressed through legal channels.

This case is a powerful reminder of the emotional and financial pressures faced by young South African artists.

Accountability, Mental Health, and Artist Rights

The incident involving Tebogo G Mashego is more than a celebrity scandal. It is a mirror to the ongoing struggle for accountability and transparency in the South African music industry.

While the apology to DJ Maphorisa may seem like a step forward, the deeper issues remain unresolved. Mental health, royalty payments, and artist support structures must now come under renewed scrutiny.
