A police officer murdered in the early hours of Friday, 17 October 2025, in Tsakane Extension 13. The incident, which occurred outside Constable Raymond Mzwakhe Khoza’s residence, has sparked national concern and an urgent investigation led by the Hawks.
Constable Khoza Responds to Disturbance Call
At approximately 00:40 am, Constable Khoza, who was off duty at the time, received a distress call from a neighbour. The caller alerted him to suspicious activity involving unknown men outside her yard on Shingange Street.
Despite being off duty, Constable Khoza acted swiftly and stepped outside to investigate. As he approached the neighbour’s gate, gunshots erupted.

Officer Shot Multiple Times Outside His Home
According to police reports, the suspects opened fire from within the neighbour’s yard as Constable Khoza neared. He was struck several times in the lower body.
Injured but still mobile, the constable attempted to return to his home. Tragically, he collapsed inside his residence and later succumbed to his injuries.
Police Officer Murdered and Firearm Stolen
During the incident, Constable Khoza dropped his official service firearm while retreating. The suspects allegedly took the weapon before fleeing the scene.
This brazen theft of a state-issued firearm poses a severe threat to public safety. Law enforcement agencies are now on high alert to recover the stolen weapon.
Hawks Launch Urgent Investigation
The Hawks’ serious organised crime unit in the East Rand is spearheading the murder investigation. Spokesperson Lt-Col Christopher Singo confirmed that the suspects remain at large.
He detailed that Constable Khoza had gone to assist after hearing that the men were assaulting neighbours nearby. The attackers opened fire when they saw the officer approach.
Community and Political Response
The ANC caucus in Ekurhuleni has strongly condemned the murder. Chief Whip Sizakele Masuku called for a “swift, co-ordinated and uncompromising response” by SAPS and all law enforcement units.

“No society can defeat crime by remaining silent in the face of such evil,” Masuku stated. She further urged community members to share any information that may assist with the investigation.
Public Safety Concerns Over Stolen Firearm

The Hawks have prioritised the recovery of the firearm, as well as the identification and arrest of the suspects.
