The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has issued a strong traffic advisory ahead of Travis Scott’s highly anticipated Circus Maximus World Tour stop in South Africa this weekend.
The American rapper is set to perform live at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 11 October, and thousands of fans are expected to descend on the venue prompting warnings of major traffic disruptions in the south of Joburg.
In an official statement, JMPD said:
“The concert is expected to start at 8:30pm and end at approximately 11pm. Early arrivals will be expected from 9pm and gates will open at 4pm.”
The department urged concertgoers, especially hospitality and VIP ticket holders, to arrive early to ensure smooth access and avoid long delays as showtime approaches.
Road Closures and Traffic Disruptions
To manage the expected surge in traffic, full road closures will be implemented around the FNB Stadium Precinct from Ilam onwards. The following key routes will be affected:
- Golden Highway: Closed between the corner of Golden Highway, Ring 1, and Soweto Highway. Only authorised vehicles will be allowed through.
- Nasrec Road: Closed between Recreation Road and Shaft 17 Road, with access to pre-paid parking from Recreation Road.
- Soweto Highway: Closed between Mentz Street and the N1 offramp.
- Booysens Reserve Road: Closed between Crownwood Road and League Avenue.
The JMPD advised motorists to familiarise themselves with these closures to avoid frustration and unnecessary detours.
Travis Scott Joburg Show Travel Alternatives
To reduce congestion and ease access to the venue, JMPD is encouraging the use of Park and Ride facilities. Secure parking and return transport will be available from multiple pick-up points to help fans get to and from the concert without the hassle of traffic gridlock.
JMPD has also called on local residents to plan their movements carefully and be patient during peak hours on Saturday.
“We urge residents to exercise patience before, during, and after the concert, especially after the concert when traffic congestion may be significant,” the statement read.
Motorists and fans alike are encouraged to stay informed through traffic updates and allow extra travel time to ensure a smooth and safe concert experience.
The Travis Scott concert marks one of the biggest international music events to hit Johannesburg this year and with massive crowds expected, authorities are urging everyone to prepare accordingly.
