Kaizer Chiefs have received a major boost after SAFA Arbitrator Hilton Epstein ruled in favour of Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman, officially declaring the pair free agents. This decision clears the way for the club to register and field the two young talents without further delay.
Dispute Over Transfers Settled
The saga began after Chiefs signed Velebayi and Baartman on free transfers when Cape Town Spurs were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League at the end of last season. Following their relegation, Spurs contested the transfers, taking the matter to the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC).
The PSL DRC initially ruled in favour of the players, confirming their free agent status. However, the Urban Warriors were not satisfied and lodged an appeal against the decision, prolonging the transfer standoff.
Epstein Rules in Favour of the Players
According to Phakaaathi, Epstein has now upheld the DRC’s ruling, once again siding with the players. The decision compels Spurs to immediately issue their clearance certificates, allowing Chiefs to officially register both Velebayi and Baartman.
Boost for Kaizer Chiefs
This development comes at a crucial time for Amakhosi, who have been seeking to strengthen their squad after a disappointing start to the season. The addition of the duo will give the club more depth and options as they aim to turn their campaign around.
With the legal hurdles cleared, Chiefs can now integrate the talented pair into their matchday plans and focus fully on their on-field ambitions.
