Sekhukhune United striker Bradley Grobler has spoken out about his continued exclusion from the Bafana Bafana setup, admitting it is both frustrating and disheartening.
A Season of Goals, But No Call-Up
The 37-year-old veteran has been in fine form this season, netting eight goals in all competitions. Despite his consistency, Grobler was once again left out of Hugo Broos’ 45-man provisional squad. His absence continues a long spell away from the national team, with his last appearance coming more than five years ago a period often interrupted by injuries.
“It’s tough. It’s frustrating. I would like to be part of the team, especially because they are in such a great space at the moment,” Grobler told FARPost.
Bradley Grobler Still Believes in His Ability
Now leading the line for Sekhukhune, Grobler insists that age has not dulled his sharpness. He believes he remains capable of competing at the highest level in South African football.
“There are exciting things coming for the team, and it’s always a dream to be there, especially now. But mentally, I think I can do anything within the league,” he said.
Feeling Shut Out by Broos
The former SuperSport United striker, however, feels that no matter what he does in the PSL, national coach Hugo Broos has already made up his mind.
“I can score 100 goals, but I just don’t think he can change his mind about me. It’s hard to accept it, but what more can I do? I will keep pushing and keep fighting,” Grobler admitted.
He added that while he won’t give up, he has come to terms with the likelihood that another Bafana call-up may never come.
A Remarkable Career
Grobler’s achievements in South African football remain undeniable. He currently sits third on the PSL all-time top goal scorers’ list with 123 goals only seven behind Namibian forward Peter Shalulile.
At 37, Grobler continues to defy the odds, but his dream of returning to Bafana Bafana appears to be slipping further away.
