Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that two of their squad members, Happy Mashiane and Samkelo Zwane, will spend the rest of the 2025/26 season on loan at Siwelele FC. The announcement came on transfer deadline day, 22 September, as the Soweto giants finalised the moves ahead of the closing of the transfer window.
The pair, both products of the Amakhosi academy, are set to gain valuable game time with the Bloemfontein-based side, who are looking to strengthen their squad for the season.
Mashiane Looks to Revive Form
Happy Mashiane, a versatile wide man who can also operate as a left back, has struggled to cement a regular starting spot at Naturena. Over the past season, the 27-year-old made only three starts and six substitute appearances, often finding himself behind new signings Nkanyiso Shinga and Paseka Mako in the pecking order.
Mashiane’s last major setback came during the CAF Champions League final against Al Ahly in July 2021, when a red card affected his standing at the club. Now, at Siwelele, he has the chance to revive his career with consistent playing time. His ability to slot in as a left back is particularly valuable for Siwelele, whose first-choice defender, Neo Rapoo, is away at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
Zwane to Gain First-Team Experience
Samkelo Zwane, regarded as one of Chiefs’ promising young midfielders, is also heading to Siwelele for a crucial development spell. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder struggled for minutes last season, making just 13 appearances in all competitions – seven as a starter and six from the bench.
Under Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, Zwane was highly rated, but opportunities were limited. The loan move presents him with the chance to prove himself in a competitive environment while bolstering Siwelele’s midfield options. Where coach Lehlohonolo Seema will deploy him remains to be seen, but Zwane’s presence adds depth and flexibility to the Bloemfontein side.
Loan Moves Part of Kaizer Chiefs’ Strategy
The loans of Mashiane and Zwane were part of a wider plan by Chiefs to ensure that fringe players gain regular game time. Both players had not yet seen action this season, making the move timely for their development and for Siwelele, who are keen to strengthen their squad mid-season.
The arrival of the duo coincides with Siwelele also signing Zakhele Lepasa on a free transfer from Orlando Pirates. It remains unclear whether Kegan Johannes, recently announced on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, will remain part of the squad.
Fresh Opportunities for Chiefs Duo
For Mashiane and Zwane, the switch to Siwelele is more than just a temporary move. Mashiane will aim to regain his confidence and showcase his versatility, while Zwane looks to establish himself as a dependable midfield presence. Both players have the opportunity to make significant contributions to a team seeking stability in the Betway Premiership.
Siwelele, meanwhile, stands to benefit from the experience and quality of the two Chiefs academy graduates. With Rapoo away, Mashiane offers defensive cover without sacrificing attacking potential, while Zwane’s energy in midfield could prove pivotal in key matches this season.
The loan moves underline Chiefs’ commitment to player development and the importance of ensuring their talents gain the exposure they need. For the players, this is a new lease of life, an opportunity to restart, impress, and potentially return to Naturena in stronger form.
