LDV is stepping up its game in South Africa’s bakkie market with the upcoming Terron 9, set to make its official local debut at the Kyalami Festival of Motoring on 28 August. Positioned above the current T60, the Terron 9 will enter the premium bakkie segment, taking aim at strong rivals such as the Ford Ranger Platinum, Volkswagen Amarok, and GWM P500.
A New Diesel Heart
Following its Australian release in June, the South African-bound Terron 9 will be offered in three trim levels Elite, Luxury, and Premium.
Under the bonnet, all models will feature LDV’s in-house developed 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine paired with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox.
While local performance figures remain under wraps, the Australian model produces 163 kW and 520 Nm, with power sent to either the rear wheels or all four wheels.
LDV has also confirmed plans for a fully electric eTerron 9 in the future. This version, shown earlier this year under the Maxus badge at the Nampo Agricultural Expo in the Free State, will join the range at a later stage.

Dimensions and Capability
The Terron 9’s robust build reflects its premium positioning. Key measurements include:
- Length: 5 500 mm
- Wheelbase: 3 300 mm
- Height: 1 874 mm
- Width: 1 997 mm
- Ground Clearance: 220 mm
It boasts a 3 500 kg towing capacity, a payload of 1 005–1 100 kg, and can ford water up to 500 mm deep. Off-road angles include a 29° approach, 20° breakover, and 25° departure.

Premium Features LDV Terron 9
The Terron 9 will arrive well-equipped, with features in the Australian spec expected to carry over, including:
Feature | Details |
---|---|
Wheels | 18-inch or 20-inch alloy options |
Interior Displays | Dual 12.3-inch screens |
Comfort | Heated, ventilated & massaging front seats; heated rear seats |
Audio | Four-speaker or eight-speaker JBL sound system |
Lighting | Bi-LED headlights, ambient lighting |
Practicality | Rubberised load bin, rain-sensing wipers |

Pricing Expectations
In Australia, the Terron 9 starts from the equivalent of R591 834 to R649 868. However, given South African pricing trends and the T60’s current range, industry talk suggests a local starting point between R820 000 and R850 000.
With its blend of modern tech, premium comfort, and rugged capability, the LDV Terron 9 is set to challenge established players in South Africa’s high-end bakkie arena. All will be revealed when LDV lifts the covers at Kyalami later this month.
