Joburg Water Announces Critical Maintenance and 10-Hour Water Outages
Next week, several areas in Johannesburg will experience significant 10-hour water outages as Joburg Water undertakes essential maintenance on its infrastructure. The planned 10-hour water outages will impact residents in various regions, with low pressure to no water supply expected during this period. Below are the areas and dates affected by the interruptions.
Montgomery Park, Northcliff, and Other Northern Suburbs Face Extended Low Pressure and Water Supply Interruptions
As of 4 August 2025, several northern Johannesburg areas have been experiencing reduced water supply due to a burst 375mm water pipe at the intersection of Milner Avenue and John Adamson Drive. Joburg Water has confirmed that repairs are ongoing but did not specify a date for restoration.
Residents in the following areas are experiencing low pressure to no water:
- Montgomery Park
- Albertsville
- Albertstroom
- East Town
- Northcliff
Joburg Water assured the public that the ongoing repairs are aimed at improving the long-term continuity of water supply and enhancing overall service delivery. Crews continue to work on the infrastructure to resolve the issue, although the situation remains fluid with no immediate resolution in sight.
Orange Farm to Experience 10-Hour Water Outages
Orange Farm, spanning all extensions, will face a full water shutdown on 13 August 2025, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The interruption is due to the relocation of a 300mm pipeline on Palm Drive. Joburg Water expects all streets in the area to be affected, and residents will experience low to no water pressure throughout the maintenance window.
This critical operation aims to improve water supply reliability and service delivery to the community. Joburg Water has indicated that the work will enhance overall system efficiency once completed.
Blairgowrie Residents Prepare for Complete Water Outage
Blairgowrie will experience a complete water shutdown on 12 August 2025, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. During these 10 hours, residents will have no water supply as crews work to connect new infrastructure to the existing mainline.
Joburg Water emphasised that this operation is designed to bolster long-term service delivery and ensure more reliable water access for the area. Alternative water arrangements will be communicated to residents, and they are advised to stockpile sufficient water before the scheduled maintenance period.
Important Tips for Residents
- Prepare in Advance: Residents in affected areas are advised to store sufficient water ahead of the maintenance work.
- Alternative Water Sources: Stay updated on any alternative water supply provisions that may be made available during the outage.
Ensuring Long-Term Water Supply Stability
While these scheduled 10-hour water outages may cause short-term inconvenience, they are essential for improving the overall water delivery infrastructure. Joburg Water assures residents that the planned maintenance work will lead to better service and a more reliable water supply once completed. Stay informed and prepared for these disruptions as the repairs continue across Johannesburg’s key areas.
