In an unexpected twist to South Africa’s annual celebration of beauty, brains and boldness, the Miss SA 2025 pageant has officially been postponed, with no confirmed date yet for the beloved event that traditionally dazzles during Women’s Month.
The Miss SA Organisation released a statement on Monday, revealing the postponement is part of a wider strategic shift. The goal? To achieve greater alignment with international schedules and amplify the pageant’s impact on entrepreneurship, cultural awareness, job creation, and social cohesion.
“The pillars of the organisation will be expanded,” the statement read, hinting at a transformative direction that looks far beyond the catwalk.
Changing of the Guard: Stephanie Weil Steps Down
The postponement comes just weeks after the departure of longtime Miss SA CEO, Stephanie Weil. A central figure in shaping the brand’s modern identity, Weil exits the role following what the organisation described as a mutual agreement.
“Ms Weil will stay on temporarily to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership,” the Miss SA Organisation confirmed.
Her exit marks the end of a significant era — one that saw South Africa win global acclaim, including Lalela Mswane’s crowning as Miss Supranational 2022.
Supranational Shake-Up: Miss SA Withdraws
Adding to the wave of transformation, the Miss SA Organisation officially withdrew from Miss Supranational 2025 earlier this year. The decision not to renew the international pageant license surprised many, especially given South Africa’s strong track record.
Notably, Ayanda Thabethe, the Miss SA 2022 runner-up, proudly represented the nation at Miss Supranational 2023, hosted in Poland by former Miss SA Jo-Ann Strauss.
With Miss SA stepping back, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, a former Miss South Africa herself, has now taken over the directorship of Miss Supranational SA.
“I feel honoured. The international organisation said, ‘We think Bokang is the right person,’” she shared in an interview with eNCA.
What Happens Now for Miss SA 2025?
The reigning queen, Mia Le Roux, will enjoy an extended reign, giving her more time to advocate for causes close to her heart — and possibly inspire a few wardrobe changes along the way.
While no new date has been announced for the pageant, fans are assured that Miss SA 2025 will still take place — just not in August as usual.
The organisation is reimagining its purpose. Instead of simply showcasing beauty, it’s carving a path for meaningful national impact, particularly in entrepreneurship and cultural dialogue.
