As the off-season transfer window heats up, Kaizer Chiefs’ reported interest in Young Africans forward Clement Mzize appears to have hit a roadblock, with the Tanzanian club’s star striker indicating he may be staying put — at least for now.
Mzize Remains Committed to Yanga
Despite swirling rumours linking the 21-year-old with a move to Naturena, Mzize has made it clear he is still under contract with Young Africans SC. After a standout season in which he netted 14 goals and provided five assists, Mzize has caught the eye of several clubs across the continent. Chiefs, who recently appointed Nasreddine Nabi as head coach, were believed to be among the front-runners for his signature.
However, speaking to The Guardian, Mzize suggested his immediate future remains in Tanzania.
“Of course, I want to explore new opportunities to grow my career. I’ve had wonderful moments at Young Africans, and as I’ve mentioned, I’m still under contract,” said the forward.
Hints at Offers, But No Move Confirmed
While he emphasized his commitment to Yanga, Mzize did acknowledge interest from other teams, noting that any decisions about his future would be handled by his management team.
“It’s true that I’ve received offers, but as a player, I can’t disclose them. I’ve had a great season — winning the Premier League crown and scoring in the derby. It’s an immense feeling, and I’m grateful to be here.”
These comments suggest that while a move isn’t imminent, Mzize is not ruling out the possibility of a transfer if the right offer comes along — and if Yanga is willing to negotiate.
Chiefs Looking to Rebuild After Disappointing Campaign
Kaizer Chiefs are desperate to overhaul their squad after another underwhelming domestic campaign. The Glamour Boys finished outside the top eight for the second consecutive season in the Betway Premiership, a result far below expectations for one of South Africa’s most successful clubs.
Despite claiming their first trophy in over a decade by defeating Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final, the pressure is mounting for a major improvement in the upcoming 2025/2026 season. Coach Nabi is reportedly eager to bolster his attack, and Mzize was seen as a promising option to inject youth and pace into the frontline.
Changes at Naturena Continue
Earlier this month, Chiefs confirmed the departure of striker Ranga Chivaviro, who had joined the club in June 2023. The Soweto giants opted not to extend his two-year contract, opening space for potential new signings in the forward department.
Speculation has also linked Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau with a possible return to the Premier Soccer League, with Chiefs among the clubs reportedly monitoring the situation — though no concrete developments have been confirmed.
For now, Clement Mzize appears set to stay with Young Africans, but with transfer activity ramping up across Africa, the situation could evolve quickly. While Kaizer Chiefs may have to look elsewhere to reinforce their squad, the door isn’t entirely closed — Mzize’s future could still involve a move, depending on negotiations between Yanga and interested parties.
