Despite claims of a secret celebrity WhatsApp group targeting him, MacG maintains his DStv exit was amicable and not part of an industry conspiracy.
South African podcasting maverick Macgyver “MacG” Mukwevho has shut down swirling rumours that his DStv cancellation was part of a wider celebrity-led conspiracy to sabotage his career. The controversial broadcaster and host of the viral show Podcast and Chill with MacG insists there is “absolutely no link” between his recent removal from the broadcaster’s lineup and alleged efforts to bring him down by a group of industry insiders.
MacG described his relationship with DStv as a “real partnership,” praising the broadcaster for backing his creative ventures from day one.
“DStv has been a great partner throughout this process. They’ve backed what we’re doing from the beginning,” he said.
Plot or Paranoia? MacG Addresses Industry Rumours
Earlier this month, MacG shocked fans during an episode of Podcast and Chill by claiming that a WhatsApp group of celebrities, allegedly including rapper Cassper Nyovest, was actively plotting his downfall.
“She’s part of a group of celebrities, and apparently Cassper’s in this group. Where they are literally plotting my demise, bro,” MacG told co-host Sol Phenduka.
The podcaster even provided what appeared to be a screenshot from the group and shared anecdotes about encounters with some of the members who allegedly spoke ill of him behind closed doors.
However, despite these heavy accusations, MacG drew a clear line between these tensions and his DStv departure.
“They [DStv] believe in the vision… It’s a real partnership,” he reaffirmed.
What Happened with DStv?
Over the weekend, DStv’s digital distribution partner, Leading Edge Growth, confirmed that Podcast and Chill, along with Awkward Dates, would be concluding their runs on the platform to make room for new programming.
“Season one of Podcast and Chill and Awkward Dates are nearing their final episodes… making way for fresh and exciting content,” said Lufuno Maliavusa, CEO of Leading Edge Growth.
MacG clarified that only the main Podcast and Chill show was affected. Other productions under the Podcast and Chill Network, such as People Need Comedy (PNC) and Piano Pulse, are still airing and will continue to do so.
“With Spreading Humours, PNC, and Piano Pulse, we’re still active… Podcast and Chill Network isn’t going anywhere when it comes to traditional media,” said MacG.
MacG Opens Up: “I’m Not Unbothered”
In a moment of vulnerability, MacG admitted the cancellation hasn’t been easy emotionally.
“Honestly, I’m not unbothered. I feel things like anyone else would. But I also know this expansion into TV is way bigger than me,” he shared.
Despite criticism from some quarters and past controversial comments — including those involving media personality Minnie Dlamini — MacG’s fanbase, affectionately known as the Chillers, has shown immense loyalty.
“They’ve supported us fully, even while we’re still figuring things out,” he said. “They’ve been patient, loyal, and real with us. That kind of support means everything.”
The Mic Drop
While conspiracy theories continue to swirl in the wake of his DStv cancellation, MacG is choosing to focus on growth, collaboration, and keeping his content empire thriving.
The Podcast and Chill Network continues to play a dominant role in South African digital entertainment, and MacG’s fans are right there with him, ready for the next chapter, drama or not.
