The City of Ekurhuleni has issued an important notice to residents and businesses regarding the upcoming 107 Hour Rand Water Maintenance, scheduled to take place from 29 May to 3 June 2025. This critical maintenance project on Rand Water’s bulk supply infrastructure is expected to disrupt water supply across various parts of the city, necessitating proactive measures by residents.
Areas Affected by the 107 Hour Rand Water Maintenance
The maintenance will impact water availability in several key parts of Ekurhuleni, including:
- Benoni
- Daveyton
- Etwatwa
- Springs
- Brakpan
- Kwa-Thema
- Tsakani
- Duduza
- Nigel
- Vosloorus
- Boksburg
- Germiston
- Katlehong
Residents in these locations are advised to prepare in advance by storing adequate water to last throughout the maintenance period.
City’s Commitment to Water Supply Sustainability
MMC for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Thembi Msane, emphasises the necessity of this maintenance work. “We understand the inconvenience this maintenance will cause to our residents and businesses, but it is absolutely necessary to ensure the sustainability and reliability of our water supply system,” said Cllr Msane. She further appealed for patience and cooperation, noting that technicians will be working around the clock to complete the upgrades efficiently.
Essential Tips for Residents During the Maintenance
Residents are urged to start storing water well ahead of the shutdown using clean, sealed containers to preserve water quality. The City will also deploy water tankers in affected areas to assist with water relief during the five-day project.
Cllr Msane appeals to the public: “Please do not intimidate tanker drivers or damage equipment, as this will only hinder our relief efforts.” Ensuring the smooth operation of these tankers is vital to alleviating water shortages during this period.
Post-Maintenance Water Supply Recovery
It is important to note that normal water pressure and supply may take up to two weeks to stabilise after the maintenance, particularly in high-lying areas such as Tsakani, Daveyton, and Etwatwa. The City will provide regular updates on water tanker schedules and locations via ward councillors and official media channels.
Stay Informed and Prepared
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official City of Ekurhuleni communication platforms to receive timely updates on the progress of the 107 Hour Rand Water Maintenance. This proactive communication aims to minimise inconvenience and ensure community readiness during this essential infrastructure upgrade.
