In a tense semi-final clash, Mamelodi Sundowns faced Egyptian giants Al Ahly. The first leg in Pretoria ended in a goalless draw, setting the stage for a decisive second leg in Cairo. In front of a capacity crowd of 73,000 at the Cairo International Stadium, the match remained deadlocked until the final moments. Al Ahly took the lead, but in a dramatic turn of events, a 90th-minute own goal by Al Ahly defender Yasser Ibrahim leveled the score at 1-1. With the aggregate score tied and Sundowns having scored an away goal, they advanced to the final on the away goals rule.
Upcoming Final Against Pyramids FC
Mamelodi Sundowns will now face another Egyptian side, Pyramids FC, in the CAF Champions League final. The first leg is scheduled to be hosted by Sundowns on May 24, with the return leg taking place in Egypt.
