“The safety of a boat is important, and the poor residents here have all had to evacuate,” one concerned resident told EWN. “I’ve cleared out my holiday home and am now trying to save what I can before conditions get worse.”

Heavy and sustained rainfall across the region has caused Vaal Dam water levels to surge, forcing the DWS to release excess water to relieve structural pressure and avoid dam overflow.
