Teacher’s Confidential Revelation
During the ongoing Joshlin Smith trial at the Western Cape High Court in Saldanha Bay, Edna Maart, Joshlin’s Grade 1 teacher, testified about a disturbing conversation with Kelly Smith. Maart recounted that four days after Joshlin’s disappearance in February 2024, Smith confided in her about receiving a call from a Nigerian man. According to Maart, Smith claimed the caller informed her that Joshlin was “in a container on a boat on her way to West Africa.” Smith expressed fear of the community’s reaction, which prevented her from reporting this information to the police.
Allegations of Child Sale Plans
Further testimony from evangelist Steven Coetzee introduced claims that Smith had contemplated selling her children. Coetzee stated that in August 2023, Smith mentioned awaiting individuals who intended to take her children, expressing willingness to accept as little as R5,000 if the promised R20,000 wasn’t available. She allegedly hinted at a forthcoming event that would turn Middelpos into a “movie scene,” with extensive searches yielding no results as she would ensure the child was taken far away.
