Deadly altercation erupts over firearm entry policy at a popular Sandton restaurant
Sandton Restaurant Shootout: A tragic shootout at a restaurant in Sandton on Thursday night left three people dead, including a man and his two bodyguards. Four others were wounded in the altercation, which reportedly began when the man attempted to enter the establishment despite its strict no-firearm policy.
Details of the Sandton Restaurant Shootout
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the incident escalated when security personnel attempted to enforce the restaurant’s firearm policy. A confrontation ensued, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the man’s bodyguards and security personnel.
“Two of the bodyguards were declared dead on the scene, while five other victims, including the man, two patrons, a CPF (Community Policing Forum) member, and a security guard, sustained gunshot injuries,” Nevhuhulwi stated.
The wounded individuals were rushed to the hospital, where the man—who allegedly instigated the altercation—succumbed to his injuries.
Shooter Had a Criminal History
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased man had a prior arrest related to a shooting incident in Sandton last year. Authorities have not disclosed his identity.
Police Investigation Underway
As of now, no arrests have been made. Police have opened a case of murder and attempted murder, and investigations are ongoing.

The shootout has raised concerns about security in high-end dining establishments and the enforcement of firearm policies. Sandton, known for its upscale restaurants and nightlife, has experienced sporadic violent incidents in recent years.
