Planned Power Disruptions Announced by City Power Johannesburg
Johannesburg residents should brace for extended power outages as City Power Johannesburg has scheduled an 8-hour blackout affecting 23 areas. The planned outages will begin on Monday, 3 March 2025, with additional areas set to experience interruptions on 5 March 2025.
City Power has stated that the power cuts are necessary for critical maintenance work on the electricity network, aimed at improving service reliability across affected suburbs.
Reason for the Power Outage
According to City Power Johannesburg, scheduled maintenance is essential for ensuring the long-term efficiency of the electricity supply. The upgrades and repairs are part of ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
“As the power supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live,” City Power Johannesburg warned in an official statement.

City Power Johannesburg is also addressing an unplanned power disruption affecting more than four areas, including:

A repair team has been dispatched, and City Power has assured residents that an estimated time for restoration (ETR) will be communicated once the repair process is underway.
Meanwhile, at Reefhaven Switching Station (Aloe House), technicians are working to finalize repairs following a cable fault that caused power outages in Lindhaven, Grobler Park, and surrounding areas.

- Unplug electrical appliances to avoid damage from power surges when electricity is restored.
- Use alternative power sources like generators or power banks where necessary.
