Blaze Breaks Out at Volley Luxury Student Accommodation in Brooklyn
A fire broke out at the Volley luxury student accommodation in Brooklyn, Tshwane, leaving three individuals suffering from smoke inhalation. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Emergency Response and Fire Containment
According to City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni, the fire was reported just after midday, leading to a swift dispatch of firefighting teams from Hatfield, Central, Hazelwood, and Silverton Fire Stations. The response included multiple fire engines, a water tanker, an industrial pumper, a ladder, a district commander’s unit, and a video unit.
Firefighters arrived to find an apartment on the top floor of the three-storey building engulfed in flames. The blaze quickly spread through the ceiling to four adjacent apartments. However, firefighters managed to contain the fire before it could cause further damage to nearby buildings.
Injuries and Medical Response
Emergency medical teams, including Gauteng Province Emergency Medical Services, Tshwane Metro Police Department, and private ambulance services, assisted at the scene. Three patients suffering from smoke inhalation were treated and transported to nearby hospitals.
Cause of the Fire Remains Unknown
Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the fire. Investigations are ongoing to establish what led to the incident.
This incident follows another recent building fire in Rayton, where emergency teams responded swiftly, though no injuries were reported.

Residents of student accommodations and apartment buildings are advised to remain vigilant about fire safety protocols and ensure emergency exits and fire alarms are functional.
