Volvo South Africa is making electric vehicle (EV) ownership more appealing by introducing a comprehensive package aimed at easing the transition to zero-emissions driving. This initiative comes at a time when the demand for EVs in the country is steadily increasing.
Volvo Two Years of Free Public Charging
To support new EV buyers, Volvo is offering two years of free public charging valued at R12,000. This offer is linked to the GridCars charging network, which continues to expand across the country, making it easier for owners to access convenient charging stations. Markus Cromwell, Volvo Car South Africa’s Head of Commercial, noted that the strong sales of EVs in 2024 highlight growing consumer interest, and he believes this offer will further drive demand.

Home Charging Incentive
Recognising that home charging is a crucial factor in EV adoption, Volvo is also providing an installation allowance of R7,500 for a GridCars wallbox. This wallbox offers faster charging compared to a standard plug, ensuring greater convenience. Additionally, it comes with a two-year warranty covering both parts and installation, giving buyers peace of mind.

Enhanced Connectivity with Free Data
Connectivity is another key aspect of the package. Volvo is including a Wi-Fi dongle with 10GB of Vodacom data per month for three years. This ensures seamless access to built-in Google services such as Google Maps for navigation and YouTube for in-car entertainment, enhancing the overall user experience.

Expanding Volvo’s EV Line-Up
Volvo’s electric vehicle range in South Africa currently features the EX30, XC40 Recharge, and C40 Recharge, catering to various customer needs. The EX30 stands out as an affordable yet high-performance EV, boasting a range of up to 476 km and an impressive 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 3.6 seconds in its Twin Motor Performance variant. Later this year, Volvo will expand its line-up with the introduction of the EX90, which is expected to be the brand’s safest vehicle yet.

Volvo South Africa’s Commitment to Electrification
With 539 EVs sold in 2024, Volvo Car SA continues to lead the local transition to electric mobility. “South African motorists have shown they’re ready for electric motoring,” said Cromwell. “We aim to continue attracting drivers with this offer, making the switch to electric vehicles as seamless as possible.”
