Expected SASSA Old Age Grant Increase in April 2025
The much-anticipated National Budget Speech, expected to be delivered by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana on 12 March 2025, is set to outline the official increases for all social grants. Originally, the speech was delayed due to disagreements over a proposed VAT increase.
According to preliminary reports, the government had allocated an additional R23.3 billion to social grants and welfare programmes to counteract the potential VAT hike’s impact on low-income households.
Projected Grant Increases for 2025
If the proposed increases are implemented as planned, beneficiaries of the SASSA Old Age Grant can expect the following changes:
- Old Age Grant: Increases by R140 on 1 April 2025, followed by an additional R10 increase in October 2025, bringing the total to R2 340 per month for individuals aged 60-75 and R2 360 for those 75 years and older.
- Child Support Grant: R530 increases to R580 per month
- Foster Care Grant: Increases by R80 per month
- Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: Remains at R370 per month
