Tshwane residents brace for a 14-hour power outage as Eskom conducts essential maintenance
Eskom has announced a scheduled power outage in the Cullinan area on Thursday, 20 February, from 9:00 to 23:00. The power utility will be carrying out critical maintenance work on its distribution power lines, affecting several areas.

- Aust Verviers
- Casa Mia Country Estate
- Doxa Deo Edendale Pre-Primary School
- Eland Plots
- Gem Valley
- Kilifi Creek
- Nooitgedacht Plots
- The Hills
Eskom’s Advisory to Residents
Eskom has urged residents in the affected areas to remain cautious, stating:
“For safety, treat all electrical appliances as live during the outage.”
The company also apologised for any inconvenience, adding that the maintenance is essential for ensuring a stable and reliable power supply.
Recent Power Disruptions in Tshwane
The Cullinan power outage follows a substation explosion on Tuesday night that left large parts of Pretoria East without electricity. The City of Tshwane confirmed that a voltage transformer explosion at the Njala Infeed Substation disrupted the 132kV supply line, affecting multiple areas.
Tshwane Executive Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya assured residents that emergency teams had extinguished the fire and restoration efforts were underway. While some areas have regained power, full restoration is expected by Wednesday.
