Police Investigate ‘Inhumane’ Assault at Zanzou Nightclub as Shocking Videos Surface

Police are actively investigating a shocking case of assault linked to former bouncers of Zanzou Nightclub, following the circulation of disturbing videos online. The graphic footage, which surfaced on social media on Monday, depicts a group of men being subjected to brutal mistreatment, including alleged waterboarding and other forms of abuse. Police Launch Investigation into Zanzou Nightclub Assault

Authorities in Tshwane have been directed to trace and apprehend the former bouncers linked to the disturbing incidents at Zanzou Nightclub in Hatfield, Pretoria. National police commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, has condemned the acts as “inhumane, barbaric, unacceptable, and degrading,” further directing Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni, to lead the investigation.

Mthombeni has also urged victims to come forward and formally report their cases at a police station. Currently, the police are considering multiple charges, including assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), crimen injuria, and kidnapping.

Zanzou Nightclub Denies Allegations of Assault Over Unpaid Bills

Following widespread speculation, Zanzou Nightclub released an official statement denying claims that the violent acts were linked to patrons failing to settle their bills. The management asserted that the videos in question were historical and related to phone theft incidents at the venue.

“The video is in no way connected to any patrons not settling any outstanding bill amounts as falsely stated on numerous social media platforms,” Zanzou Nightclub management clarified.

The club further stated that upon learning of the incidents, they conducted an internal investigation that resulted in the immediate dismissal of the implicated security personnel. The nightclub has since outsourced its security operations to a fully registered and compliant private security firm to ensure adherence to South African laws and regulations.

Zanzou Nightclub Takes Legal Action Against Former Bouncers

Zanzou Nightclub has confirmed that it is exploring legal options against the former bouncers involved in the abusive practices, stating that their actions were documented on video.

Additionally, the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) has been cited in the case, as the dissemination of these videos without consent contravenes South African data privacy laws. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Police Conduct Site Inspection at Zanzou Nightclub

In response to the viral videos, the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major General Thine, has been tasked with conducting a thorough site visit and compliance inspection at Zanzou Nightclub. This process aims to gather more evidence and ensure that the club is operating within legal parameters.

General Masemola assured the public that law enforcement is fully committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice, promising that the necessary resources will be deployed to expedite the investigation.

Extortion Claims Emerge Amid Investigation

In a surprising turn, Zanzou Nightclub also alleged that a man named Mr. Herve attempted to blackmail the business, threatening to release the videos if his demands were not met. The club claims that he created a “dishonest narrative” around the situation to pressure them into compliance.

“We are fully prepared to cooperate with law enforcement authorities in any investigations related to this matter,” Zanzou Nightclub stated.
