Mahindra XUV 3XO Review: Can This Compact SUV Handle Daily Life

Mahindra’s latest entry in the compact SUV segment, the XUV 3XO, is designed to compete with the toughest players in the market. As part of the brand’s constant push for improvement, Mahindra XUV 3XO faces the challenge of standing out in a crowded field. We put it to the test through the everyday tasks of school runs, grocery shopping, and airport trips to see if it meets the demands of modern life.

Stylish Yet Practical Design

The XUV 3XO boasts Mahindra’s latest design language, which gives it a contemporary, bold look. The front end is striking and instantly eye-catching, with unique design details, including scuff plates, roof rails, and a floating-effect roof. While the overall shape is still quite boxy—typical of many crossovers—the XUV 3XO stands out with its innovative touches. At the rear, the design is sleek, though it bears a resemblance to the Kia Seltos, which isn’t a drawback by any means.

Interior: Practicality Over Premium Appeal

Inside, the Mahindra XUV 3XO offers a no-nonsense, functional cabin. The materials used in the interior reflect the price range, prioritising durability over premium luxury. The dashboard design is simple yet effective, with a vertical layout that frees up space and ensures practicality. The cabin features a leather-accented steering wheel and a top-spec Harman Kardon sound system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 10.25-inch touchscreen on higher trims is user-friendly, although there were occasional glitches with Bluetooth connectivity.

The XUV 3XO excels in space and comfort, especially in the second row, where rear passengers enjoy generous legroom and their own air vents. The boot offers ample space for luggage or a baby buggy, making it ideal for family outings. The flagship model also includes thoughtful touches such as a wireless charging pad, USB ports, a panoramic sunroof, and semi-autonomous driving features.

Smooth and Effortless Driving Experience

The XUV 3XO shines when it comes to driving comfort, especially on less-than-ideal terrain. The SUV handles dusty and uneven roads with ease, providing a comfortable ride even on rugged paths. The steering is responsive and direct, making the XUV 3XO feel confident on the road. Adaptive cruise control and semi-autonomous driving features, including lane departure warning, further enhance the driving experience, although the latter can be a bit intrusive at times.

With its 1.2-litre turbocharged engine producing 82 kW and 200 Nm, the XUV 3XO offers sufficient power for daily driving. The 6-speed automatic gearbox complements the engine well, and three driving modes—Zip, Zap, and Zoom—allow drivers to adjust the vehicle’s performance to their needs. Fuel consumption is relatively efficient, averaging around 6-7 litres per 100 km, which is quite impressive for a vehicle in this segment.

Safety Features for Peace of Mind

Safety is a top priority for Mahindra, and the XUV 3XO is equipped with a robust suite of safety features. These include the ADAS Level 2 system, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, and six airbags. These features, combined with Mahindra’s solid reputation for safety, make the XUV 3XO a reliable choice for families.

Affordability and Value for Money

The Mahindra XUV 3XO is priced competitively within the segment, with models starting at R254,999 and going up to R404,999 for the top-spec variant. While the flagship model offers premium features, the entry-level models are also well-equipped and provide excellent value for money. The XUV 3XO’s solid build quality, practicality, and array of features make it a strong contender in the compact SUV market.

A Strong Contender for Daily Life

The Mahindra XUV 3XO proves itself to be a capable and practical compact SUV, offering a comfortable drive, ample space, and plenty of modern features. While it may not be the most luxurious offering in its segment, it provides solid value for money, especially for buyers looking for an affordable and reliable vehicle. If you’re in the market for a crossover that meets the demands of daily life without breaking the bank, the XUV 3XO is certainly worth considering.
