Music Executive, Nota Baloyi, Confident as Accusations Persist
The high-profile rape case involving controversial music executive Nhlamulo aka Nota Baloyi has been postponed to 14 February 2025. Baloyi, who made a brief appearance at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 28 January, stated that he is unperturbed by the delay and looks forward to proving his innocence.
Case Details and Background
The accusations were first brought forward by actress Itumeleng Bokaba in 2024, alleging sexual misconduct by Baloyi. During the court appearance, the state requested a postponement to consult further with Bokaba and review an additional statement submitted in the case.
Baloyi, known for his bold public persona, appeared in court holding a Bible and wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the words “Amapiano Vs Everybody.” He expressed confidence in his innocence, telling the media, “I’m not surprised that the made-up story is changing, but I’m confident that the evidence will prove my innocence. I don’t mind waiting until Valentine’s Day.”
Legal Proceedings So Far
In addition to the rape allegations, Baloyi has been entangled in a separate legal battle involving a protection order filed against him in September 2024. The protection order prohibits Bokaba from discussing him on social media.
Baloyi previously stated in October that he had instructed his attorney to investigate possible violations of this order by Bokaba. He also expressed hope that the rape case would be resolved before the protection order matter proceeds further.
Itumeleng Bokaba Speaks Out
Bokaba, an actress and former Yo.tv presenter, has since used her platform to advocate against sexual abuse. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she emphasized the importance of consent and called for accountability.
“No means no. It’s not a negotiation, a suggestion, or an invitation to persuade. Consent must be clear, enthusiastic, and freely given,” Bokaba wrote, adding that excuses often used by perpetrators are attempts to deflect responsibility.
The actress, known for her role in Rhythm City, continues to encourage survivors of sexual violence to come forward.
Public Reactions
The case has sparked widespread debate on social media, with opinions sharply divided. Some users have rallied behind Bokaba’s message of consent and accountability, while others have questioned the veracity of the accusations against Baloyi.
Looking Ahead to Valentine’s Day
As the case resumes on Valentine’s Day, all eyes will be on the Randburg Magistrate’s Court to determine the next steps in this ongoing legal saga.
