Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has officially unveiled the updated pricing for the revised Land Rover Defender range in South Africa, following its initial announcement in May last year. Along with new pricing, the lineup introduces a more powerful diesel variant while retaining the much-loved supercharged V8—though possibly not for long.

    Unchanged Looks, Diverse Options

The updated Defender lineup maintains its iconic design across all three body styles: the compact three-door 90, the versatile five-door 110, and the extended-wheelbase 130. Five trim levels are available—S, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE, X, and the bespoke County package, which has shifted to the S trim level after debuting on the discontinued SE.

For the 110, JLR has introduced the limited-run Sedona Edition, offering premium upgrades above the X-Dynamic HSE trim. Meanwhile, the Outbound grade provides a similar premium feel but is exclusive to the 130.

Land Rover Defender V8 Still Roars—For Now

The Defender V8, equipped with the outgoing 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, continues to be offered across the 90, 110, and 130 models. However, it is likely to be replaced soon by the BMW-sourced 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, currently available in the OCTA, a performance-focused variant of the 110.

    Improved Diesel Power

On the mechanical front, the previous D300 diesel variant has been replaced by the D350, which uses the same 3.0-litre Ingenium straight-six turbodiesel but delivers an enhanced 257 kW and 700 Nm of torque, compared to the D300’s 221 kW and 650 Nm. Other engines in the range remain unchanged:

    • D250: Produces 183 kW and 570 Nm.
    • P400: A mild-hybrid petrol straight-six delivering 294 kW and 550 Nm.
    • P400e: A plug-in hybrid combining a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 297 kW and 640 Nm, offering an electric-only range of 59 km.

The legendary AJ-V8 powering the Defender V8 produces 386 kW and 626 Nm, while the BMW-made V8 in the OCTA variant generates a massive 467 kW and 750 Nm, courtesy of a mild-hybrid system.

    Interior and Features

No changes have been made to the Defender’s interior, though buyers can still opt for features such as the Captain Chair’s package and the Signature Interior Pack, depending on the trim level.

    Pricing and Maintenance

All 28 models in the updated Defender range come with a five-year/100,000 km maintenance plan, while the P400e hybrid models include an additional eight-year/100,000 km battery warranty.
