    Resilience Amid Challenges

The Class of 2024 faced unique challenges, with their high school years shaped by the Covid-19 pandemic. Confidence Dikgole, CEO of the IEB, highlighted the students’ remarkable resilience:

“In Grade 8, amidst the severe lockdown of 2020, they encountered disruptions to foundational learning, adapted to new modes of education, and navigated the psychological impacts of uncertainty and isolation”

    Technology in Education

Dikgole also discussed the increasing influence of technology on education, noting its potential benefits and challenges. “While tools like Generative AI and smartphones have made learning more accessible, they also bring challenges like shorter attention spans and potential mental health concerns,” she explained.

Many schools have taken proactive measures by limiting the use of technology during school hours to foster focus and critical thinking. Dikgole emphasized that the 2024 matric results underscore the need for responsible technology use and the development of essential 21st-century skills.
