According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the vehicle was hijacked earlier on Louis Botha Avenue in Oaklands. Acting on the lead, officers arrived at the premises on Wednesday, recovering the stolen vehicle and arresting five suspects—four men and one woman. Among those detained was an individual alleged to be a grandchild of Nelson Mandela.
Unlicensed Firearm Recovered
In addition to recovering the hijacked vehicle, officers found an unlicensed firearm during a thorough search of the property.
“Preliminary information suggests that the female suspect was renting the property and is connected to the four male suspects,” said Fihla. All five suspects were taken into custody at Norwood SAPS and are facing charges related to possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Fihla also confirmed that the hijacking victim was unharmed during the incident, providing relief amid the alarming developments.
