Mashaba highlighted the demanding nature of political roles, noting, “Politicians never have rest. They work seven days a week and do not have much of a holiday unlike if they were employed in the private sector.” He added that fair pay would help retain skilled leaders in public service, ensuring they are not tempted to abandon their roles for private-sector opportunities.

    Rewarding Merit and Integrity

Mashaba clarified that increased salaries should only apply to politicians who demonstrate hard work and honesty. “We should only reward those that work hard and do not steal from the public purse,” he stated, reaffirming his stance against corruption.

    Mashaba’s Unique Approach to Leadership

Despite advocating for fair pay, Mashaba does not draw a salary as the president of ActionSA. Instead, he funds the party with his own resources, prioritizing its growth and sustainability. “I do not need to get a salary from the party because that money could be put to better use providing resources for the party,” he explained.

Mashaba also assured that his financial support for ActionSA would continue even if he steps down as president. He revealed plans to secure long-term funding for the party, ensuring its adherence to core values.

Herman Mashaba’s stance highlights the need for accountability and merit in public service. By advocating for fair pay for hardworking and honest politicians, he underscores the importance of ethical governance and the fight against corruption.
