Former Idols SA Judge Shares Heartfelt Tribute to Her Late Father, Sakhiwo Nkayi
Media personality Unathi Nkayi, best known for her tenure as a judge on Idols South Africa, is grieving the loss of her beloved father, Sakhiwo Nkayi. In an emotional statement shared on social media, Unathi expressed her deep sorrow at the passing of the man she affectionately described as her “spiritual twin.”
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved father,” the statement read. “A true treasure to us all, a great father, beloved friend, and uncle to many. He now joins his lineage at their final resting place. We appreciate your love and support during this tough time.”

A Bond Beyond Words
Unathi’s close relationship with her father was evident in her tributes over the years. On his birthday in 2023, she penned a heartfelt message celebrating their unique bond.
“This guy is my spiritual twin, like my son…we’re November babies. All three of us,” she wrote. She credited him for her confidence, feistiness, and moral compass, often referring to him as her greatest inspiration.
Unathi once shared how her father’s influence shaped her strong character. “When you get annoyed with my feistiness, know that it is because of my fellow Scorpio who raised me to be like this,” she said.

Just a year ago, Unathi and her family celebrated her son’s return from initiation school, a significant cultural milestone. She shared her gratitude for the Embo Initiation Academy for their dedication and respect in guiding young men through this important journey.
“Thank you to all our friends and family who shared this special moment with us,” Unathi wrote at the time.
