EFF faces internal struggles as Ndlozi disputes criticism of Malema and challenges ANC’s election performance.

As the EFF turmoil unravels, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, former EFF spokesperson and current MP, has publicly defended Julius Malema, disputing claims by Sunday Times that labelled Malema as the “biggest loser” of 2024. Despite ongoing criticism of Malema’s leadership and the EFF’s recent challenges, Ndlozi took to X (formerly Twitter) to counterattack the media narrative and shift the focus to the African National Congress (ANC).

    2024 Setbacks Prior EFF Turmoil

The Sunday Times article highlighted significant challenges for the EFF in 2024:

    • The migration of key members to the MK party.
    • A disappointing performance in the general elections.
    • Exclusion from the Government of National Unity (GNU).
    • Malema’s declining political alliances.

Despite these setbacks, Ndlozi rebuffed claims that Malema’s leadership was the year’s greatest political failure. Instead, he pointed out the ANC’s 17-point vote decline and its loss of control over three provinces, asserting, “Despicable! ANC is the LOSER of the year!”

    Ndlozi’s Unyielding Support for Malema

Ndlozi’s defence of Malema comes after months of strained relations within the EFF. Malema previously criticized Ndlozi for his absence during critical party moments, leading to speculation about Ndlozi’s sidelining within the organization.

Ndlozi’s spirited defence called out “biased” reporting, accusing the media of ignoring the ANC’s losses in favour of sensationalism.

“This is the historic loss an honest journalistic paper will record,” Ndlozi posted. “But no, you choose to be petty, personal, and decidedly biased.”

    Ndlozi’s Political Future

Rumours suggest Ndlozi has been excluded from EFF activities, including the recent National People’s Assembly (NPA). Malema even instructed party leaders to avoid addressing Ndlozi’s status.

Political analyst Prof. Ntsikelelo Breakfast from Nelson Mandela University speculated on Ndlozi’s uncertain future, suggesting he may eventually leave the EFF:

“Malema and his crew don’t want the guy. I think he is leaving soon because he is not wanted,” Breakfast stated.

Is the EFF on Shaky Ground?

While Ndlozi’s defense of Malema attempts to project unity, the EFF’s internal divisions, coupled with external losses, paint a turbulent picture for the party as it approaches 2025. Whether Ndlozi remains a part of the EFF or charts a new political path is yet to be seen.
