Plan Ahead for Detours as M10 Road Closes for Pedestrian Bridge Construction
Motorists in Centurion are urged to brace for disruptions as Solomon Mahlangu Drive (M10) will be closed for the weekend to facilitate the construction of a new pedestrian bridge. The closure will take place from 6:00 PM on Friday, December 6, to midnight on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has confirmed that the closure will affect the section between Veldpou Street and the R21 Interchange. TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba assured the public that clear construction notices and alternative route directions will be placed along the impacted road.
Alternative Routes to Consider
To minimize delays and ensure smooth travel during the closure, motorists are encouraged to use the following suggested routes:
- R21 Highway
- Makou Street
- Visarend Street
- Veldpou Street
TMPD’s Role During the Closure
TMPD officers will be deployed to monitor traffic flow, enforce safety measures, and assist drivers in navigating detours. Mahamba emphasized the importance of adhering to signage and directions to avoid unnecessary delays.
Why the Closure is Necessary
The construction of the pedestrian bridge aims to improve road safety and accessibility in the Centurion area. While the closure may cause short-term inconvenience, the new infrastructure is expected to provide long-term benefits for both motorists and pedestrians.
Plan Your Route and Stay Updated
