Kelly Khumalo, the award-winning musician known for her bold persona and powerful voice, has embarked on a transformative new chapter in her life as a certified traditional healer. Celebrating both her 40th birthday and the culmination of a 15-year spiritual journey, Khumalo shared her milestone with her followers in a heartfelt social media post.
A Moment of Celebration and Reflection for Kelly Khumalo
The singer, who has often been the subject of media attention, recently shared a powerful video featuring notable figures like Sakina Kamwendo, Mac G, and Nota Baloyi, all speaking her name. The clip also included tweets in her honor, underscoring her wide influence across media and public discourse.
In her post, Kelly Khumalo appeared dressed in traditional Zulu attire, complete with feathers, marking the occasion with a symbolic caption: “Awu Hlanga lomhlabathi Slwane Esinamandla, wabizwa wasabela now you are a certified healer.”This phrase, loosely translated as “You Mighty One, you were called and responded, now you are a certified healer,” reflects both a spiritual and personal rebirth for the singer.
Khumalo’s Spiritual Journey Revealed
The next day, Khumalo sat down with Nonhlanhla Buthelezi, popularly known as Mroza, on Ukhozi FM’s Vuka Afrika Breakfast Show, where she delved deeper into her newfound role as inyanga (traditional healer). “Today, as I’m celebrating my birthday, I’m also graduating as an inyanga. So, now I’m officially inyanga,” Khumalo proudly shared.
She explained that her healing journey, which began 15 years ago, involved deep introspection and spiritual training in various forms—from water rituals to prayer, and lessons from nature and her ancestral roots. “It took a long time for me to understand this gift,” she reflected, adding that her healing path is not limited to any one community. “Mine is different. It’s a universal gift, one that will transcend cultural boundaries. It’s not just about healing black people; it’s about healing the world.”
Overcoming Challenges and Stepping into a New Life
Despite Khumalo’s growing spiritual presence, 2024 has been a challenging year for the musician. Her name has been frequently mentioned in connection with the ongoing trial of her late boyfriend, Senzo Meyiwa, whose tragic murder remains under legal scrutiny.
Looking to the future, Khumalo also revealed that she has big plans for 2025, marking her 20th year in the music industry. She teased an exciting project that would celebrate her two decades in the entertainment world. “For me, it feels like I’m given a new life, and everything is renewed and restored,” she shared, addressing Mroza affectionately as “Gogo.”
